Parent Education
When I was at the Greater Washington Suzuki Institute in June, I attended a 10-hour enrichment course with Dr. Terry Durbin. (see above, he will be here in October to work with all of our kids!!) The course focused on the topics of Motivation and Autotelic Learning. There were many tidbits of inspiration and serious food for thought given to all of us over week. I will share some of these tidbits over the coming months, but for starters, I want to recommend a book that I am reading right now.
The Self-Driven Child by William Stixrud and Ned Johnson
The Wake Co library does have a few copies available. Purchase a copy or check it out of the library - even the just the first 3 chapters are so enlightening!!
Here is an online overview of the book I found: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-case-for-the-ldquo-self-driven-child-rdquo/
